What does ilipa mean?

ilipa is an historical location 10 km north of modern-day Seville, in Spain. It was the site of one of the most strategic battle victories in Military history.

The Battle of Ilipa was considered by many as Scipio Africanus’s most brilliant victory. It took place during the Second Punic War in 206 BC, on the East of Alcalá del Río, Seville, Spain. Scipio’s pre-battle manoeuvre and his reverse Cannae formation stands as the acme of his tactical ability, in which he forever broke the Carthaginian hold in Iberia.

Whilst we embrace the human element and always put people before profits at ilipa, that is not to say we are not careful, calculated nor strategic in our approach to building our businesses, and the name ilipa symbolises this intent.

Teams, not Heroes.

But why the small i? Well apart from making it easier to read, (Ilipa / LLIPA?) it also represents one of our underlying philosophies, which is to focus more on the ‘US’ and less on the ‘I’. We strive to create teams not heroes.
